About Us

Spending time in nature can have a positive impact on our overall wellbeing. Natural environments provide a calmer, less pressured setting where people can slow down, take a break from busy surroundings and enjoy a change of pace. Research into nature and wellbeing has linked time outdoors with reduced stress, improved mood, increased attention and a greater sense of calm. At The Moat Farm, we provide opportunities for both children and adults to enjoy these benefits in a peaceful countryside setting, surrounded by animals and open space.

Animals can also provide meaningful opportunities for connection and interaction. Grooming, feeding, walking and simply spending time alongside an animal can encourage people to focus on the present moment and engage their senses. These activities can support communication, patience, confidence and responsibility, while creating opportunities for positive experiences and achievements. For some people, animals can feel easier to connect with than social situations involving other people, offering a gentle and non-judgemental presence.

Our environment can be particularly beneficial for people with neurodiverse needs. Busy environments, unfamiliar surroundings and sensory demands can sometimes feel overwhelming, whereas being outdoors and engaging in practical, hands-on activities can provide a more relaxed way to explore social interaction and build confidence. There is no expectation to constantly talk, participate or perform. People can take things at their own pace, choose how they interact with the animals and enjoy the space in a way that feels comfortable for them.

For children and adults who have experienced trauma or difficult periods in their lives, having access to a safe, predictable and peaceful environment can be valuable. Simple activities such as grooming a pony, feeding the goats, collecting eggs or sitting quietly with an animal can provide a sense of routine, purpose and accomplishment. These experiences can support social and emotional development, self-esteem and the ability to recognise and manage emotions, while encouraging positive relationships with animals, other people and the natural world.

We believe wellbeing can be supported through small, meaningful experiences. Whether someone visits to spend time with their favourite animal, enjoy the countryside, meet others, learn something new or simply have some time away from everyday pressures, The Moat Farm offers a welcoming space where people can relax, explore and connect, at their own pace.
